Air Source Heat Pumps

Heat pump technology is nearly 80 years old, but it still remains a mystery  as to how it works.  All heat pumps are basically fridges working in reverse - they use the same mechanical technology as a refrigerator and air conditioner, but for the generation of hot water.

For every 1 unit of electricity used, a heat pump generates 3 units of heat.  In comparison a standard immersion heater uses 3 units of electricity to generate 3 units of heat.  The introduction of an air source heat pumps to the domestic household or small business setting is now financially  viable because of the technological advances in planet friendly refrigerants and compressor technology.

Advantages...

 - low running costs (typically around 5 - 10p an hour to operate

 - year round hot water

 - more efficient that gas boilers

 - more cost effective than immersion heaters

Why Air Source (over Ground Source Heat Pumps)

 - Air source heat pumps can be sited internally or externally

 - No need for large trenches or bore holes requiring an area of land and more expense to install.

 - Cheaper to install.

 - More reliable with fewer maintenance parts
